When one thinks of Parthiv Patel, the image that often comes to mind is that of a stalwart cricketer defending the wickets with grit and determination. But on a recent visit to Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, Patel found himself defending not just wickets, but also for Indian heritage and culture.
Reflecting on his experience, Patel shared, “Akshardham is truly unbelievable. No video or photograph can encapsulate the sheer magnificence and aura of this place.”
Despite the many miles that separate the diaspora from India, Patel emphasized the importance of staying connected to our roots. “We may reside miles away from our homeland, but our heritage remains within us. And it’s paramount, especially for the younger generation who haven’t had the privilege of experiencing life back in India, to understand this. BAPS plays a pivotal role in imparting this knowledge and ensuring that our traditions continue to thrive.”
Speaking directly to the youth, he passionately added, “Embrace your culture. Nothing in the world compares to the richness and wisdom it offers. It’s a reservoir of peace, understanding, and values.”
One of the highlights of his visit was the selfless dedication of the volunteers at Akshardham. “The ‘sevabhav’ or spirit of selfless service that every volunteer embodies here is a stark reminder that life’s true essence lies beyond material wealth. Money, while essential, isn’t everything.”
