On July 23, 2023, NFL linebacker Foyesade Oluokun visited the Swaminarayan Akshardham. Oluokun is celebrated as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ “Most Improved Player of 2022” and a vocal community leader. Upon meeting HH Mahant Swami Maharaj, he offered selfless prayers for his family and teammates.
While meeting the young volunteers, he remarked, “Everybody here leads with humility… from the guru down to the tour guide, everybody seemed like they had that respect for each other.” He commended their efforts in making the Akshardham project a reality.
On his thoughts on inclusivity, Oluokun shared, “You might not believe in what they [Hindus] believe in, but you’ll find the similarities and you’ll respect exactly what they’re doing.” Cultural landmarks, like Akshardham, bring people of different backgrounds together by building a united community founded on mutual respect.
